Manchester United are up against Wolfsburg in the last encounter of the group stage in the Champions league and in order to ensure their survival in Europe’s most prestigious competition, the Red Devils will enter the game with the intention to win.
Manchester United need a win to progress in the round of 16 and failing to so would make them dependent on game against PSV and CSKA Moscow. Wolfsburg on the other hand just needs a draw to further their campaign in the Champions League. As Van Gaal Pointed out, Wolsburg will put forward a defensive foot and restrict any advances made by the Red devils. The Old Trafford outfit will enter the game on the backs of a frustrating tie against West Ham. As Van Gaal said, “We have to play against a very good team. I am convinced we can do it but we have to be more composed in front of goal”, Manchester United need all their key players to step up to the occasion but with the injury plagues the Dutchman will be short of options.
Here is Manchester United’s predicted line up for the match against Wolfsburg on Tuesday:
In his 11 appearances this season De Gea has made over 31 saves and kept six clean sheets. He has been brilliant for the Red Devils and there are no question as to who will keep for the team if the Spaniard if well and fit.
Paddy McNair is said to have some problem with his ankle and that makes his selection questionable in the tie against Wolfsburg thus making Ashley Young on the right flank. The other defenders are likely to be the same trio who featured in the game against the Hammers- Blind, Smalling and Darmian. But a lacklusture performance that was on display in their Premier League tie will not be acceptable in a clash as crucial as this.
Not surprisingly Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger will be bearing the task of keeping the Wolfsburg attackers at bay. This match will be the German has to show his prowess and he will be immensely critical for the success of the Red Devils at the Volswagen Arena.
‘Offense is the best defence’, and that will be Manchester United’s motto when they take on Wolfsburg. Mata, Fellaini and Lingaard are the probable players to make it to the starting 11. Furthermore the the Boss is likely to bring in Depay also in the foray but how he uses Depay will depend on the situation; either as a mid fielder to limit the opponents and create chanes or as a forward to put the team on the board.
In the absence of captain Rooney, the goal scoring responsibility falls on the young shoulders of Anthony Martial. Martial has been a find for Manchester United and his young instincts and agility is the magic that United need in the middle to win the game and move forward i the Champions league.
