Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has revealed that he had held talks with manager José Mourinho. The 27-year old has confirmed that he would be staying at Old Trafford for the season.
The Spaniard had started Manchester United’s season opener against Bournemouth and have looked very impressive in the match as he had formed a formidable partnership with Marouane Fellaini.
However with Paul Pogba expected to return to the squad, the Spanish international might have to be benched by José Mourinho. But the player has confirmed that Mourinho would be giving him plenty of chances despite having a rich of midfielders in the squad.
“I had to do a different role in the team and I think I can be important there for the manager,” Herrera said.
“I have spoken with the manager and we are agreed with that, that I can be an important player for the team and that I can help the team in that position.
“I think I can win a lot of balls back for the team. My instinct is to try to win the ball back for the team as quickly as possible.”
The 27-year old had moved to Old Trafford in 2014 as one of the first signings by former manager Louis van Gaal. The play-maker was instantly made a name for himself among the fans with his creative passing and all-round game.
He is set to battle with the likes of Paul Pogba, Marouane Fellaini, Morgan Schneiderlin, Michael Carrick for a place in the starting line-up this season with Bastian Schweinsteiger set to leave the club before the end of transfer window.
Herrera was earlier linked with Juventus as the Italian champions are keen to sign a transfer midfielder to replace Paul Pogba.
