According to Sky90, Bayern Munich are putting their best efforts to sign Ilkay Gundogan from Borussia Dortmund this summer. The extent of Bayern’s intent can be seen from the fact that they are willing to offer the former Dortmund star Mario Gotze in an attempt to sign Gundogan.
This move will dent serious blow to Manchester United’s hopes of signing the German midfielder this summer. Gundogan has recently come back from his latest injury and has featured 20 times in the league this season scoring 3 goals.
Gundogan was eyed as a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick by Louis Van Gaal but Bayern Munich are prepared to ruin United’s plan of signing Gundogan this summer. Gotze, who joined Bayern 2 seasons ago has not been playing to the level it was expected from him.
Gotze has failed to get in to the team when Bayern Munich have had all of their stars (Ribery, Robben, Muller, Lewandowski) fit and ready for the first team. Pep Guardiola personally prefers Thiago Alcantara ahead of Mario Gotze to play in the final third of Munich’s attack.
According to Sky 90’s reports, it could open the door for a direct player-swap deal between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund which would see Gotze and Gundogan swapping their clubs. Dortmund fans were really hurt by the manner in which Gotze left the club in 2013 and it would be really interesting to see if the Dortmund fans accept him like the old days.
