Manchester United will continue their top four pursuit when they welcome Watford on Wednesday on the back of a Huge win against Arsenal in their last league outing and Louis Van Gaal’s boys now look to build on the winning mentality. the Red Devils are now just 3 points behind 4th placed Manchester City and are looking forward with great confidence to close the gap if Manchester City slip up. Here is the predicted starting line-up we think Louis van Gaal will pick.
Goalkeeper: David de Gea’s return was a successful one from injury against Arsenal at the weekend and the Spaniard will keep his place in goal at home.
Defence: Manchester United’s problems in defence have slightly eased as Chris Smalling is expected to return after missing the last two matches with a shoulder injury while Marcos Rojo is also set to have passed fit despite being forced off with a minor foot problem on Sunday.
Matteo Darmian could make a comeback in the first eleven after overcoming a shoulder and rib injury but van Gaal may not risk the Italian from the start just yet so Guillermo Varela should continue his role at right-back.
Defensive Midfield: Due to the injury crisis Michael Carrick has featured in defence in recent matches but might move back in to his deep midfield position if Cris Smalling returns. Marouane Fellaini and Bastian Schweinsteiger remain out with injury so it is certain Morgan Schneiderlin to retain his place in midfield. the veteran French midfielder has been really impressive for Manchester United till now this season. Despite not able to control the midfield in every match, he gives a much needed layer of protection.
He has also displayed some important interceptions and his pass percentage remains very high which adjusts perfectly for a squad like United playing a possession game. On Wednesday he will be up against Watford captain Troy Deeney, who despite not in a great form against Southampton in their last match can become a huge threat to injury-hit Manchester United defence and Schneiderlin has to take a great responsibility on Wednesday to cover his back-four.
Attacking Midfield: Anthony Martial is also expected to make his comeback from a hamstring setback but with the young sensation Marcus Rashford scoring four goals in two games in his absence, United boss may choose to use the Frenchman on the left wing. Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard could keep their places in attack while Lingard will operate down the right flank and Mata posted in central role but Wayne Rooney remains out with a knee injury.
Striker: Old Trafford’s new sensation Marcus Rashford will get another chance to lead the United attack following his exceptional run of form. It will be interesting to see how he performs against the Watford defence. the 18-year-old lad hit a stunning brace as the Red Devils won that do-or-die Europa League last 32 second leg tie and remarkably replicated that display on Sunday, scoring another double as title-chasing Arsenal were beaten 3-2 at Old Trafford.
Here is how we think United will line-up:
Manchester United Predicted Line-up: De Gea; Varella, Smalling, Blind, Rojo; Carrick, Schneiderlin; Lingard, Mata, Martial, Rashford
