Manchester United are heading into one of the most important summers for a long time in the history of the club after the end of this season.
Manager Louis van Gaal is more or less likely to be sacked and with a new manager coming in, the squad will need a huge overhaul. So there is no surprise that the Old Trafford club is being linked with a number of European stars even this far away from the summer transfer window.
Football Insider sources revealed that Manchester United sent scouts to watch Fillipe Anderson in action for Lazio this weekend.
The Premier League giants have been on the radar to sign the Brazilian international even in the last transfer window when a 37.6 million bid was rejected by Lazio.
However, the Red Devils are now keeping tabs on him for a possible summer move to England. They are not giving up hope on the 22-year old and assessed him in Lazio’s 2-0 victory over Frosinone on Sunday.
Anderson moved to Lazio from Santos in the summer of 2013 and was an instant hit in Italy. He recently signed a contract with the Italian club up until 2020 and this will make it hard for Manchester United to lure him out of the club.
Lazio are also holding out for a fee of 40 million plus add-ons and are unlikely to sell their star player who scored 7 goals and gave 3 assists in the 30 odd matches he has played for the club this season.
Recently, the Dutchman at the helm of United opened up about a need for a wide forward who can make runs behind the defense and score goals, and it is now understood that Anderson has been identified as one of the options to strengthen that position.
The Lazio winger who has one cap with his national team is used predominantly on the left side of the attack and is a very versatile player who can score and set goals up for his team mates.
This is something Louis van Gaal’s team has been missing over the entire season in-spite of the insane amounts spent on a number of players who have not been able to perform to their best.
So it will be important for the club to choose quality over popularity. It will be interesting to see how this transfer story pans out come the summer transfer window.
