Manchester United have been one of the most productive teams in the transfer window this summer.
Jose Mourinho, the new manager at Old Trafford has bought in the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Eric Bailly and more recently Paul Pogba, as he tries to lift the Red Devils back to where they belong.
However, with all the additions to the squad, the manager will now have to decide as to who he wants to go this summer so as to reduce the burden of wages on the club.
A number of players have already left the club on loans and also on a permanent basis and one such player who was impressive in the previous season but might face the axe is full-back Matteo Darmian.
The 26-year old was consistent in the first half of the previous season until he picked up an injury. Ever since he came back, he was used in a make-shift left back position.
Though he was decent in that area, he did not do enough to warrant another year at Old Trafford and it is now understood that Mourinho is ready to let him go this summer.
Mourinho left Darmian out of the squad for the Community Shield game against Leicester City and this situation has seen a number of clubs make a move for the Italian this summer.
The likes of Juventus, Napoli, and AS Roma are all interested in his signature but with 3 years left on his contract at United, Darmian might cost on the higher side.
Juventus are in the market for a cover for Stephan Lichtsteiner and though AC Milan’s Mattia de Sciglio is reportedly their first choice, the Italian champions are also scouting for the 26-year old.
Napoli and AS Roma are also interested in his signature and are reportedly ready to meet his valuation and with the new season just a week away, any move for the player might materialize in the upcoming days.
Manchester United are also linked with AS Monaco’s Fabinho for the right back spot and with Antonio Valencia already in the squad, Darmian’s sale may help Mourinho to spill the cash on Fabinho.
It will be interesting to see where the 26-year Italian defender plays next season but he will be unhappy to be moving out of Old Trafford after just a year.
