Manchester United and summer transfers will be a continuing theme for next 1-2 seasons as the team from the red half of Manchester are looking to re-establish their grip on the English and European league.

Manchester United is pulling their financial strings once again as they are tempting Valenica with a £74 million double swoop for defender Nicolas Otamendi and highly rated midfielder Andre Gomes.

Manchester United were keen on signing Otamendi from his Porto days but the presence of Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling stalled the move for the Argentine centre back. Otamendi made his big move to Valencia and ever since has been a rock at the back for the La Liga side. Seeing Otamendi’s growth United are ruing their decision to stick with Evans and Smalling who have not improved in last 2-3 seasons.

Valencia are aware of United’s interest in Otamendi as the Spanish side turned down a £35 million bid for Van Gaal in the summer. Valencia’s Andre Gomes is currently on a contract with a £50 million buy-out clause. Seeing United’s growing interest in the player, Valencia want to raise to the buyout cluase for Gomez to a whooping £150 million.

As per Deporte Valenciano, Manchester United can go out and sign these two for £74 million in the summer. Otamendi and Gomes have recently moved to Valencia and it will take huge sums to lure the players away from La Liga. United are in desperate needs of signing a central defender who can actually defend. Otamendi is widely viewed as the perfect fit for Van Gaal’s philosophy of re-building United.

Andre Gomes will remain a trickier signing for United as there is already a flux of talented and creative midfield players at Old Trafford. Juan Mata, Ander Herrea, Angel Di Maria, Daley Blind and Marouane Fellaini are already vowing for a spot in United’s midfield along with Wayne Rooney. Seeing all these names it would seem an impossible task for Gomez to get in to United’s playing 11.

Van Gaal would hope to get the transfer done early in the summer as Otamendi would provide the much needed defensive cover at the back. Manchester United are closely monitoring Mats Hummels, Raphael Varane and Ayemeric Laporte as potential defensive signing in the summer.
