Manchester United are plotting a move to sign Southampton target Jordy Clasie from Feyenoord, according to reports from the Express.

Southampton are set to lose their French midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin as he is the key transfer target of Premier League club Manchester United and reportedly completed his medical after agreeing terms with the Red Devils. Only the official announcement is pending from the clubs.

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman targeted his former club Feyernwood’s captain Jordy Clasie as a replacement of the departing French midfielder but have not yet made any official bid.

The 24 year old deep lying midfielder had worked with current Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal when he was in charge of the Dutch National Team.

Reports are saying that the Red Devils boss is also interested in the Dutch midfielder who is touted as “Dutch Xavi” due to similarities in their playing styles.

Van Gaal is still considering a number of new additions to his squad and sees Clasie as the perfect candidate to play the role currently filled by club veteran Michael Carrick.

“No.6 is a key player, yes. I have more key roles – the no.6 is just one of those key roles,” Dutchman said.

“You have seen this season, for example, because Michael Carrick is injured and I don’t have another, I have to play with Ander Herrera there. He did it very well, but it is not his speciality.”

The Dutch midfielder has appeared for the De Club Aan de Maas, nickname of Feyenoord, 33 times in the Eridivisie and scored 2 goals with providing 6 assists.

The Dutch central midfielder is a regular for the Netherlands national team also and highly rated by top clubs across Europe.

Manchester United have signed only one player this summer with Clasie’s International teammate Memphis Depay moving to Old Trafford. The Red Devils are looking ambitious in this window with world class defender Sergio Ramos and many more linked with them.
