Manchester United has finally returned to their winning form and after defeating Southampton. They have climbed to the third spot of the Premier League. But it will be a tough fixture on Sunday as Louis Van Gaal’s side will host Liverpool on Sunday at Old Trafford.
Brandon Roger’s side’s performance has been poor so far and the recent exit from UEFA Champions League has raised questions on the manager’s decisions. The Reds who were the runners up of 2013-14 season are struggling in the middle of the League table on 9th place.
On Sunday, the two biggest clubs of English Premier League are going head to head at Old Trafford. Let us look at 5 key players who can change the game at North West derby.
5. David De Gea (Manchester United)
De Gea has been one of the most important players for the Red Devils this season. The Spaniard has been in a wonderful form in the current campaign, making crucial saves in narrow win against Stoke and West Ham. And also showed amazing reflexes in the recent wins against Southampton and Arsenal, De Gea can again show his brilliant form against Liverpool on Sunday as a lot of shots will be coming towards him in this tight match.
4. Radamel Falcao (Manchester United)
Louis Van Gaal claimed that in the fast paced English Premier League, Colombian striker Radamel Falcao is only suitable to play 20 minutes and lacks fitness. Falcao was on the bench against Southampton and is hoped to start from there on Sunday, however the manager knows the capability of the Colombian. With a game like this Falcao is the player who can make the difference. The Reds have struggled in the back throughout the season and Falcao with his good vision can easily penetrate the Reds’ defence.
3. Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)
The Reds’ skipper scored a wonderful goal from a free kick against FC Basel but his efforts couldn’t save Liverpool from crashing out of the Champions League. Gerrard can play a very important role on Sunday as Reds travel to Old Trafford. The Liverpool legend is capable of holding the midfield and is a very important player for Brandon Rogers in terms of experience. Steven Gerrard scored a brace last time this two sides met at Old Trafford.
2. Raheem Sterling (Liverpool)
Sterling can be utilized as a lone man in attack since Sturridge and Balotelli are side-lined due to injuries. Raheem’s performance last season was instrumental for the Reds to become the runners-up for 2013-14 season but the English International has only scored 3 goals in the current season. Sterling will be the key man for Liverpool’s attack on Sunday and is expected to create a lot of problems for United’s defence.
1. Robin Van Persie (Manchester United)
The Dutch International might not have been in the best form this season but his performance at St Mary’s against Southampton helped Manchester United to grab all the three point and climb up to the 3rd position of the English Premier League. Van Persie scored twice against Southampton to give Louis Van Gaal a comfortable win and could show the same performance against Liverpool on Sunday.
