The biggest rivalry between the two most successful clubs in England, Manchester United vs Liverpool, is a match that every fans marks in his calendar. Both teams have a very proud past but have not been able to do much in the last few season. United is in a stage of transformation and manager Louis van Gaal spent a lot of money in the transfer window.

Liverpool have also made a lot of business in the window but have not attracted a top quality star and look runners-up at least on paper. But both teams have had similar start to the league with 7 points from 4 games and this game gives both teams a great chance to draw first blood in this rivalry. This article is a preview of the match between the two teams and also includes Team news and Predictions.

The Manchester United vs Liverpool match will be played on Saturday the 12th of September at the Old Trafford in Manchester. The kickoff is scheduled at 6:30 pm BST (10:00 pm IST).

Team News

The biggest news for Manchester United fans has been the contract saga of David de Gea which has ended in the player signing a new contract at the club. He will be back into contention for this match against Liverpool. Phil Jones is already on the injured list and was joined by Michael Carrick who picked up a knock in the International break. The rest of the squad is relatively fit and available for selection.

The biggest loss for Liverpool this match will be the absence of star Phillipe Coutinho who was suspended in the previous match. Daniel Sturridge has returned to training at the Melwood and this will give the team a boost of confidence. But he will not be available for this match along with star players Adam Lallana and Jordan Henderson, who could not recover in time. Joe Allen is also on the injured list and will not feature in this match against United.

Both teams are fresh from losses to lower sides in the League. United let a 1 goal lead slip against Swansea as Gomis gave the hosts all three points on the day. United looked good in attack but could not break the resilience of the Swansea defense. But Liverpool have shown their lack of co-ordination at the back when they let 3 in against the West Ham side at Anfield.

Wayne Rooney who has just broken a record will be raring to go against the rivals and may give plenty to think about for the Liverpool back line that is at the least shaky. However, United have had the same problems at the back and look vulnerable most of the time. Liverpool though will have to step up their game if they want to get anything out of this game.

Expected Lineups:

Manchester United

The last four meeting between the two sides have seen both teams win two a piece. The new season and the new challenge may well give both teams a lot to play for and for neutral fans, this will be a great game of football to watch. However, United have a slight edge over their rivals playing at home.

Our Prediction: Manchester United 2-1 Liverpool
