Louis van Gaal will not be jubilant with how his players have performed recently. But the fact that the Red Devils have been able to snatch results from these game will make the manager happy and will instill confidence in the whole team. This weekend, they played against Watford, and needed a late goal to seal all three points in a game where they were not at their fluid best. They will have to start playing as a team if they want to stay in contention in all competitions.
PSV Eindhoven will be hoping that they can repeat their performance from the first leg of the game when United were beaten 2-1. Philip Cocu’s side are having a decent run in the domestic league and have been beaten only once in their last 13 games. Just one point behind United, PSV have a chance to climb to the top of the table with an upset against the English giants.
Here is the preview of the game along with the Team News and Expected Line-ups. We have also included the Betting Odds and Predictions.
The Manchester United vs PSV Eindhoven match will be played on Wednesday the 25th of November at the Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester. The kick off is scheduled at 20:45 GMT (1:15 am on Thursday IST).
The biggest news from the Old Trafford is that Wayne Rooney who missed the weekend game against Watford is back in contention for a spot against PSV. But Van Gaal will miss the services of Martian, Fellaini, Valencia and Carrick who are yet to return from injury. The weekend game saw Ander Herrera and Phil Jones suffer injuries which means Daley Blind will partner Smalling at the back for United.
The visitors have some injury troubles of their own as Menno Koch is still ruled out after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament, while Jetro Willems and Maxime Lestienne are also expected to miss this week’s game. Luuk de Jong, Jurgen Locadia and Narsingh are likely to form an attacking trio for PSV.
De Gea; Rojo, Blind, Smalling, Darmian; Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin; Depay, Lingard, Mata; Rooney
Zoet; Arias, Moreno, Bruma, Brenet; Propper, Hendrix, Guardado; Narsingh, De Jong, Locadia
Depay vs Arias:
Memphis Depay has lost in place in van Gaal’s side off late but his performance against Watford showed what he is capable of. The Dutch International facing his former club will be up against Arias who will have to content with the winger’s threat all night. Arias was effective the last time these two team met and a similar performance can put the home side under pressure.
De Jong vs Smalling:
Chris Smalling has been in top form this season. He has looked a different player dominating his area and also reading the game well. He makes a number of interceptions and is one of the most consistent defenders in EPL at the moment. He will have to be alert to the dangers of PSV with the likes of De Jong knocking on the door. De Jong is a natural goal scorer and will be hoping to give the United back line something to think about with his clever movements.
Manchester United: 1/2
PSV Eindhoven: 13/2
United are on the top of the table of Group B and will hold onto their top spot if they can get a result from this game. PSV also have a chance to go to the top of the table with a victory and Cocu’s side will try their level best to stun the Old Trafford faithful. If United do not improve their performance from the weekend, they may well have to sweat it out in front of their home crowd.
