The first game of the 2015-16 season of the Barclays Premier League saw the Red Devils take on Tottenham Hotspur at the Old Trafford in Manchester. An early kickoff saw both teams play some talented squads as they wanted to start on a bright note. But Manchester United ran away with all the three points after an unlucky own goals from Walker in the first half.

In this article, we will analyze the performances of the players in the game and try to rate them on the performance.

Manchester United:

S Romero (3): Had a mixed day and was not commanding in the box, made a crucial save late in the game but almost gave away a goal in the 4th minute.

M Dramian (3.5): Had a decent debut. He was solid in defense and always willing to join in attack. Recieved a standing ovation at the Trafford.

C Smalling (3.5): Made some crucial interceptions all through-out the game and made sure the club had a clean sheet at the end of the game.

L Shaw (2): Not a great day on left-flank for Shaw. Looked confident on the ball but needs some improvement.

Mata (2.5): Was not consistently a threat to the opposition. Tried to cut in from the right too many times and was predictable. Was solid in defense.

A Young (3): The go to man for United on the day. Should have scored from the ball from Depay. Was solid in defense.

D Blind (2.5): Was never in a fixed position on the field. Was seen as a weak link by the Spurs as they overloaded his flank.

M Carrick (2): Was lazy in possession and lost the ball many a times. Was replaced by Schewinsteiger on the hour.

M Schneiderlin (2): Was energetic in the mid-field but did not make any direct impact on the game. Lots of room for improvement.

M Depay (2.5): Started off well but slowly faded away as the game passed. Was replaced by Herrera in the second half.

W Rooney (2): Not involved in much of what was happening up front for the club. Almost spoilt the chance to score but was helped by Walker.

Tottenham Hotspur:

M Vorm (2): Made an important save in the second half but was not confident with the ball for the whole game.

K Walker (1.5): Apart from the unlucky own goal, Walker could not track Young all game and was not at his best when in possession of the ball.

B Davies (2.5): Was comfortable dealing with Mata all game but was troubled by Darmian on the flanks.

E Dier (2.5): Was decent in the mid-field for Spurs. Was not able to open the defenses up and was replaced by Dele Alli in the second half.

J Vertonghen (3): Was effective in negating the attacks of Rooney and Depay alongside Alderweireld.

Alderweireld (3): Almost created a late goal for Tottenham. Was solid in the midfield along with Vertonghen.

M Dembele (2.5): Could not find the killer pass in the final third for too long. Was replaced by Eric Lamela for the second half.

N Bentaleb (2): Started confidently but lost possession for the United goal. Never looked settled after the goal and gave the ball away too easily.

C Eriksen (2): Should have finished an early chance and a late chance for Tottenham. Was not effective enough for the rest of the game.

H Kane (2): Was not a part of the game for most of the day. Could not link with his mid-field as he was starved of the ball by his team mates.

Both teams need to improve on their performances last week if they want to taste success in this season. Make sure you follow our website for more such interesting articles about your favorite club.
