Manchester City have confirmed that manager Manuel Pellegrini has extended his contract until June 2017. Manchester City fans will be delighted with the news ahead of the start of the new season.

The Chilean’s current deal was due to expire at the end of the coming season, with speculation that Bayern Munich’s Pep Guardiola was being lined up as his replacement.

However City announced Friday morning that the 61-year-old Chilean has signed a new contract until 2017.

“Manchester City Football Club is pleased to confirm that the contract of first team manager, Manuel Pellegrini, has been extended,” the club stated.

“The agreement, which was reached following discussions this summer, sees the contract run for two years through to June 2017. Similar such extension agreements have also been reached with Manuel’s backroom team of Rubén Cousillas, Xabier Mancisidor and José Cabello.”

The Chilean won the Premier League in his maiden season at Etihad and finished runner up in the second and City are ecastic with the experienced manager’s performances.

Pellegrini added: “I am proud to manage Manchester City FC and am therefore very pleased to have agreed this contract.

“I have a very good quality group of players and a great team of people to work with on and off the field and at all levels of the club. I am focused on the coming season and confident that my team and I will respond to the constant support shown to us by everyone including of course our fantastic fans.”

City’s chief executive Ferran Soriano said: “We are delighted to reach this agreement with Manuel Pellegrini who has already contributed so much to the development of Manchester City in his first two years with us and we look forward to further progress in the seasons ahead. This agreement allows Manuel to focus on the challenge of guiding a team capable of both fighting for domestic titles and competing for European honours.”

City begin the new season away to West Brom on Monday 10th August.
