Marc Bartra set to leave Barcelona as Dortmund activate release clause

Barcelona centre-back Marc Bartra will be a Borussia Dortmund player from next season onwards, the La Liga club have officially launched a statement on the transfer.
It has been six long years since Marc Bartra, who is a La Masia graduate, is in the first-team squad at Barcelona. In all these years Bartra has more than 100 senior team appearances, although he could never impress as the first choice in the centre back pair for the Catalan club.
The Catalan club said that Borussia Dortmund will trigger Bartra’s €8 million buyout clause to take him away from the Nou Camp.
The official statement read: “FC Barcelona announce that German club Borussia Dortmund have informed them of their desire to activate the buyout clause for the player Marc Bartra, according to which the Club is obliged to facilitate the transfer of the player for the price of 8 million euros,”.

During Luis Enrique’s time, the La Masia graduate was the fifth choice for the club as the manager preferred Gerard Pique, Javier Mascherano, Thomas Vermaelen and Jeremy Mathieu over the 25-year-old. Bartra has completed full 90 minutes on the field in all competitions for the club only seven times in the 2015-16 season and that must be something any prolific defender like him would hate to face.
Last week Bartra revealed why he is having a release clause of just €8 million- it was due to the few number of appearances that he made last season, causing deterioration in his buyout clause. There were many big clubs like Tottenham, Liverpool, Valencia and Sevilla in the race to sign the 25-year-old but at last, it is Borussia Dortmund who made the smart move!
