Mario Balotelli has accepted FA charge for ‘racist and anti-Semitic’ Instagram post. The controversial Italian striker has offered mitigation to the governing body’s disciplinary panel.
Earlier, FA charged Mario Balotelli for posting an image from the computer game Super Mario with the heading ‘Don’t be a racist’.
The text on the image read: ‘Be like Mario. He’s an Italian plumber, created by Japanese people, who speaks English and looks like a Mexican’ and went on to describe a black man and a Jewish person in negative terms.
A statement from FA read: “Mario Balotelli has been charged by The FA in relation to a recent posting on social media.
“It is alleged the Liverpool player breached FA Rule E3 in that his posting was abusive and/or insulting and/or improper. It is further alleged that this is an ‘Aggravated Breach’ as defined by FA Rule E3 as it included a reference to ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race and/or nationality and/or religion or belief. The player has until 6pm on 15 December 2014 to respond to the charge.”
Mario Balotelli returned to training this week ahead of Sunday’s crucial fixture against Manchester United. According to sources, Mario Balotelli is likely to be fined by the FA after accepting the punishment.
