Borrusia Monchengladbach are ready to make a club transfer record bid for Chelsea defender Andreas Christiensen
The 20-year-old is halfway through a two-year loan deal with the German side.
But his impressive performances last season have been enough to convince Gladbach to try and make the deal permanent.
And German newspaper Bild say Gladbach’s board have approved an offer of around £21.3million for Christiensen.
Earlier this month, sporting director Max Eberl said: “We absolutely want to sign him. Now it depends on money.”
Gladbach’s financial power has been boosted by reaching the group stages of the Champions League this week.
They convincingly beat Swiss side Young Boys 9-1 on aggregate and will face Barcelona, Manchester City and Celtic in the competition.
The Danish young lad can do it all on the pitch. He is a centre back who has a wide set of skills, something very reminiscent of Mat Hummels. This is because of one of his main strengths, his passing ability.
Every statistic supports his passing ability, as Christensen has a very high passing percentage of 86.6%. That is very good for any player, much less a defender of his age.
His ability to pass and deliver accurate long balls to his teammates is something that is rare in a defender. He has an assist to show for his passing skills as well, and his passing as much as his defending has made him an effective player for.
His passing ability far outweighs that of any other defender that Schubert has at his disposal.
Another rare trait that Christensen has that many defenders don’t is anticipation. Along with his impressive amount of interceptions, he also averages 4 clearances per game. This displays that Christensen is able to intercept the ball and then clear it away with ease, while also showing his impressive decision making.
