As the winter transfer window is arriving, a lot of transfer speculation and rumours are up in the air. One of these major rumours coming from the Red devils’ camp is that they are ready to let go of the Spaniard Juan Mata in the upcoming transfer window.

The Spaniard who only joined Manchester United in January for a then club record fee of €37.1 million was one of the most crucial and big name signing for the former Manchester United manager David Moyes apart from Fellaini who he had in Everton. Moyes was turned down by many midfielders at that time and grabbing the unhappy Mata was one of the major accomplishments for him in the January transfer window.

Mata, who at Chelsea had won player of the year twice and was also in the team which went to win UEFA Champions league 2012, FA cup 2012 and Europa league, was unhappy under Jose Mourinho since he was made to sit on the bench and his future was uncertain at Chelsea. This became a catalyst in Moyes buying Mata from the blues before the deadline of the winter transfer window.

The blues were criticized a lot after selling the Spaniard to the rival team Manchester United and many questioned José Mourinho’s decision of selling the two times Chelsea player of the year, on the other hand Chelsea were able to cash in a huge transfer fee for Juan and then turned out to have a much stronger side with youngsters like Oscar and Willian.

Mata who has appeared 24 times for the Red devils has managed to score 9 times including the very crucial and only goal against Crystal Palace where he came off the bench as a super substitute. Mata has 0.375 goal per game ratio whereas Fellaini who was also bought at same time from Everton has only managed to score once in his 19 appearances for United, even midfielders like Adnan Januzaj and Ashley Young have less goal per game ratio as compared to the Spaniard.

Since the arrival of Louis Van Gaal, Mata has not been given first team preference even with his fine form. The preference given to the attacking trio of Wayne Rooney, RvP and Falcao shows that the Spaniard is not a favourite of the Dutchman. Speculation in the recent days hints that Juan Mata will be leaving in this transfer window with moves strongly linking to Juventus and Atletico Madrid or a return to the former club Valencia can also be hoped for the Spaniard.

The departure of Juan Mata can be a huge loss for Manchester United since the Spaniard has the ability to turn the outcome of the match and suits the profile of the comeback kings but the arrival of players like Di Maria and Falcao has created the insecurity in the United camp and the current standing of the Red devils in the Premier league standing shows the it isn’t the midfield which the manager has to worry but the defences where he has to invest now.
