Atletico De Kolkata won their second home game today after defeating NorthEast United by 1-0 at the Salt Lake stadium.

Former Liverpool player Luis Garcia’s header helped Kolkata to grab all three points and maintain their top position in Indian Super League with only Chennaiyin FC behind with three points.

Atletico De Kolkata after today’s win is leading the table in Indian Super League with 16 points in 9 matches. Whereas NorthEast United has managed to get only 10 points from 9 matches and stand on the sixth position in the points table.

NorthEast decided to change the line-up by replacing Massamba Lo Sambou in place of Seminlen Doungel and James Knee was on bench with Durga Boro replacing him.

Atletico De Kolkata also made a change by giving Nallapan Mohanraj his debut in Indian Super League in place of injured Biswajit Saha.

Atletico De Kolkata in the seventh minute missed a goal scoring chance after a move which saw Garcia hitting a pass over Lester Fernandez failed since T P Rehenesh collected and cleared the ball out of box.

Fikru in the 12th minute was fouled by Rehenesh in the right were he was clean through. The resulting free kick taken by Jofre couldn’t make anything.

Luis Garcia got a wonderful opportunity when a slip up by Robing Gurung gifted Garcia the ball who tried to pull a long ranger and take the keeper off guard but it only went over the goal.

There was a shout for penalty in the closing minutes of the first half after Baljit Singh barged Alan Deory off the ball by his shoulder.

Deadlock was broken in the 51st minute after Luis Garcia managed to escape his international teammate Capdvilla and head past the NorthEast United goalkeeper from a sublime cross of Jofre. Atletico De Kolkata’s attacking line-up again performed well with Borja and Fikru being the architect setting up the goal.

NorthEast United also had a goal scoring opportunity four minutes later but Koke wasted the 30 yards free-kick by hitting it wide on the right post.

Boro also kicked the ball over the goal bar after he received the ball just outside the box in the 60th minute.

Capdevilla in the 70th minute hit a free kick wide leaving Atletico De Kolkata goalkeeper Subhashish with no trouble.

Luis Garcia again showed some unique skill as he passed the ball to Fernandez in the right. But Lester wasted time and passed the ball to Fikru who smashed it outside.

Deory in the 83rd minute after running clear down the right passed the ball to substitute Doungel whose header failed to hit the target. Yanes also missed from reaching Mtonga header from a cross by Aibor.

Aran Libert struck a shot straight to Rehenesh after a sublime cross was put in by substitute Sanju Pradhan

Atletico De Kolkata’s attack was wonderful today even though they only converted one out of the many attempts on goal a victory is well deserved. Meanwhile NorthEast United should try to convert attempts in goal since they are the least scoring team of Indian Super League.
