Premier League giants Arsenal made the trip to the Nou Camp on Wednesday night, as they faced off against the champions of Europe, Barcelona in the second leg of their round of 16 tie in the Champions League. The Gunners were having a deficit of two goals from their 2-0 loss at the Emirates in the first leg and were hoping to turn things around with a win, as a place in the next round was still up for grabs. However, things did not go according to plan for Arsene Wenger’s side who looked good in the first half at the start. The north London side created much better chances than in the first leg, yet it was once again Barca who opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Neymar converted for his side. There were no more goals in the first half though the French manager’s side wasted quite a few chances to score and had they converted things could have been different in the tie, as the now needed at least three goals in about 45 minutes.

After the restart, there was just a small ray of hope for Wenger’s team. Mohamed Elneny, who had tried his luck in the first period of play scored in the 51st minute with a superbly
taken finish to make it 1-1 on the night. The visitors tried to push for more rewards, as they looked to make something out of the tie. Despite all their best efforts, all they got was more misery. It was Luis Suarez who added a second for his side on the night in the 65th minute with a world-class finish while Lionel Messi added a third in the 88th minute. The Londoners were once again knocked out of Europe’s top competition in the round of 16, as the Catalan club marched on further to the next round.
