Atletico de Kolkata made a surprising change in the starting line up by benching skipper Luis Garcia and replacing him with Arnal Libert. Kerala Blasters also made one change by benching C S Sabeeth and bringing in Pedro Gusman.

Atletico De Kolkata had a scoring opportunity in the third minute of the game. Borja Fernandez gave a through pass bypassing the defence to Fikru who had a lot of time to score but hit the shot straight to goalkeeper David James.

In the next minute Kerala Blasters replied with full force when a remarkable cross from Pedro Gusmao was missed by Jofre to stop and reached Iian Hume at the far post, Hume struck at the empty net and scored the goal easily since goalkeeper Subhashish Roy Chowdury failed to come back to his position.

In the later minute Raphael Romey could have scored an own goal after he headed the cross just over the goal which was sent in by Lester Fernandez.

Fikru tried a sublime overhead kick after the cross by Sahini almost found him between the two defenders but the ball went over.

Subhashish in 37th minute stopped two shots on the goal heroically. It all started when the one-two between Pearson and Hume saw a shot coming from Pearson straight to Roy Chowdury. The rebound was again picked up by Pedro whose shot was managed to keep away from the goal by Roy.

In the 42nd minute the home side doubled their lead, after Hume crossed a ball inside the box to Milagres who missed it but the ball went to Pedro who scored his first goal in the Indian Premier League with a fine strike that passed Subhashish and went straight into the goal.

Luis Garcia came in the second half of the match and his presence motivated the away team instantly. In the 55th minute Fikru scored for the away team after a pass by Kingshuk Debnath went straight to the Ethiopian, Fikru who hadn’t scored from the past four matches caught David James off guard and scored easily.

Atletico de Kolkata tried to bounce back again in the later minutes when Boja gave a pass to Milagres who was only left with the goalkeeper but was stopped by Josemi.

Godwin France attempted a cross in 83rd minute which founded the goalkeeper Subhashish clueless and hit the crossbar.

A penalty shout was ruled down by the refree when a through ball by Borja was received by Luis Garcia and he was then taken down by Saumik Dey’s challenge.

The extra time was struck by controversy as Jofre’s sublime cross to the far post was headed by Fikru towards the skipper Garcia. The Spaniard met the pass on time with a volley which then hit the cross bar went inside the goal line before coming out but the linesman denied the goal.
