The Barcelona squad are reportedly split over a transfer target in the summer claims Spanish daily Don Balon, with Argentina superstar Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez keen to sign Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho while the Spanish contingent including Gerard Pique and Andres Iniesta want to see Paris Saint-Germain’s Marco Verratti at the Camp Nou next season.
With Luis Enrique set to depart in the summer and the club’s summer signings struggling to adjust to the style of play at the Nou Camp, the bosses at Barcelona are keen to strengthen the squad ahead of next season.
The Liverpool star Coutinho’s name has been regularly linked to Barcelona rumours and with the Brazilian said to be close to fellow countryman Neymar, he will be welcome at Camp Nou. The attacking trident of the MSN, see him as the perfect player for a role behind the front three, however with the 24-year-old signing a long-term contract with Liverpool recently, it is highly unlikely that he would make the move this summer.
On the other hand, Italian midfielder Verratti is a name that has been floating around ever since the Catalan giants faced Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16 tie of the UEFA Champions League.
The Italian who recently confirmed that he would talk about his future with the club at the end of the season is seen by the squad as someone who could dictate play in the centre of the park and a player who could bring more value to the team.
Either way, irrespective of who lands up in the summer, it is clear that Barcelona are on the lookout for a big name to move to the Camp Nou next season.
