Chelsea’s Antonio Conte will be distraught on his way back from Anfield as his side failed to take their opportunities to go 10 points clear at the top of the Premier League table. The Blues took the lead in this tie against Liverpool in the first half, thanks to a thumping free-kick from David Luiz that caught the home side off-guard. However, Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum managed to pull one back to keep Liverpool in the hunt. Simon Mignolet produced the moment of the game as he saved Costa’s penalty late on the night to keep Liverpool’s unbeaten record against top-sides going. However, they stay 10 points off Chelsea at the top. Here are the player ratings for the Reds in this game:

Simon Mignolet (6):

The savior on the night, Mignolet, was at fault for Luiz’ goal but was superb all around, making a couple of important saves including the penalty from Costa to give his side a point.

Nathaniel Clyne (6):

Saw plenty of the ball and used it well on a night where he was hardly tested by the likes of Eden Hazard.

Joel Matip (5):

A mixed night for the defender who gave away the ball cheaply on a number of occasions and also the penalty but had Costa in his pocket for most of the game to keep Liverpool in the hunt.

Dejan Lovren (5):

Put in a decent shift at the back and though was at fault in the build up to the penalty, was generally solid at the back.

James Milner (6):

Stuck to his task well on the flank as he kept the likes of Willian away from the goal and also provided some width in the attack that caused Chelsea a few problems. Played his part in Wijnaldum’s goal with a late run into the box.

Jordan Henderson (7):

Completely dominating the midfield for Liverpool, Henderson, was all over the Blues on the night, making countless interceptions and winning back the ball. He was also involved in the build up to the goal on a productive night for the skipper.

Emre Can (5):

Though came close to scoring, Can, was never comfortable in the midfield but was dominating the midfield in the air in a mixed night for the German.

Georginio Wijnaldum (7):

The hero of the game for the hosts, Wijnaldum, was at the right place at the right time to get his side back into the game and was also effective in the midfield on a productive night.

Adam Lallana (6):

Was too hot to handle for Chelsea on the night but failed to have a telling impact on the game, playing from a wider position in the absence of Mane.

Roberto Firmino (5):

Bottled a couple of chance to get Liverpool a victory as it seemed like his date in court today was all over his mind during the game.

Philippe Coutinho (5):

Though failed to create or score on the night, Coutinho, played his role in the first half when Liverpool were patient in trying to break the visitors.

Sadio Mane (5):

Came in with 20 minutes to go as Klopp went for a victory but did not get enough service to have a say on the outcome of the game.

Divock Origi (5):

Came late into the game to try and steal all three points but did not have enough time to make a telling impact on the night.
