Mourinho reveals what he will say to Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich on Sunday

Manchester United’s return to Chelsea is being billed ‘The Return’ by many as Jose Mourinho goes back to Stamford Bridge.

The United boss has, of course, had two spells in charge of the Blues, winning three league titles in the process.

However, he left in unceremonious circumstances last season with the west London club at the wrong end of the table despite winning the title the previous campaign.

It was the second time that Mourinho had been sacked by chairman Roman Abramovich with many believing that there had been another massive breakdown in their relationship.

However, the Portuguese boss insists that they never had a close friendship in the first place and that, if he does bump into him on Sunday, he will greet him with a handshake.

“I would shake his hand,” he said to Sky Sports. “I would ask him how his kids are.”

“I was the manager and I was respected like that. We were never close friends.

“If I go to his house, I go for professional reasons and for a professional meeting.

“If we see each other, it is only because of that, we would not share anything personal.

“We were not friends, maybe because I was respectful to the position of owner and maybe because of his profile and relation to the manager.

“We did not have problems, but we were not close.

“When he made his decision that I was not the man for his club, it is the power that he has and I just have to accept that.”

On the pitch, Mourinho will face the tough decision whether to employ the same tactics that he used at Anfield against Liverpool on Monday. The United boss was criticized for his negative approach to the game, which his side achieved a 0-0 draw.

It will certainly be interesting to see if he does the same at Stamford Bridge as both sides look to haul themselves back into the title race.

One thing is for sure, expect a mixed reaction for Mourinho in west London with some Chelsea fans still in love with the ‘Special One’ and some supporters remembering his troubled campaign last season where he was involved in a controversy with club doctor Eva Carneiro.
