Mumbai continued with the same side as their previous game, but Delhi made five changes from their last game – Wim Raymaekers, Shouvik Chakraborthy, Steven Dias, Dos Santos and Pavel Elias make their way in the playing eleven.
It was disastorous start for Mumbai as full back Syed Rahim Nabi goes down with an injury in the first minute of the match. Nabi also went off early in the opening game against Atletico de Kolkata. Mumbai had an early corner which they don’t make most of as Moritz puts the ball inside the 6-yard box but is cleared with ease. Injured Nabi had to be substituted early in the tenth minute and Peter Costa came in for the captain. Delhi have held the ball well passing it around and have started the game on a good note.
In the 11th minute Souvik Chakrabarti made a strong challenge to steal the ball from Jan Stohanzl but he went down on the ground due to the impact. Anelka soon tried to chip the ball over the defenders and run past them but he went down under heavy challenge from the two players marking him. Gustavo showed a bit of footwork just in front of the Mumbai box and played the ball to Pavel Elias who was waiting on the right edge of the box sent in a good low cross through the legs of Cmovs but it was cleared by a defender. Souvik attacked on the rebound but conceded a foul before taking the shot he was trying to make room for. Stohanzl tried a long range shot after getting a few yards free before him but it was off the target.
Both teams have failed to create goal scoring chances, the goalkeepers have been at ease as both sides have been content with keeping the possession. Mumbai City tried to build the attack slowly as Ralte played a one-two with Anelka but the ball was soon intercepted by Elias. Mads Junker gave away the ball too casually near his area and Mumbai had another go on the ball but nothing came out of it. Shouvik puts in another cross from the left flank but Paul is alert and magnificently dives to his left to catch the ball.
Both the sides have banked heavily on the shots from outside the box to break the deadlock. Stiven Dias puts a cross for Mads Junker who jumps high in the air but fails to keep the header on target. Steven certainly living upto his expectation of putting magical crosses.
A brilliant chance came for Mumbai in the 38th minute of the game when Andre Moritz made a good run and passed it to Anelka, he crosses it to Subhash near the post, Subhash tries to hit it on the volley but mistimes it horribly. Mumbai had a corner in the final minute of first half but it was cleared well by Delhi to end 0-0 at half time. It has been quite lacklustre in terms of creativity but there’s still much left to play for.
Alessandro Del Piero fans presnt at the stadium.
The second half started with Santos making a good run on the right and manages to get away from two defenders and he takes a couple of touches to cut inside and take a shot which goes above the cross bar. Good build up from Delhi in the 52nd minute as Shouvik puts in an asking cross for his teammate, but Paul is alert there as he comes charging out to make the save.
The first yellow card of the match came in the 53rd minute to Andre Moritz who got booked for an angry reaction when he saw the refree awarding a free kick to Delhi and he has thrown the ball in anger. Arias receives a yellow card in the next minute for making a harsh challenge on Anelka.
Lalrindika Ralte was replced by Nadong Bhutia as a left winger in the 56th minute. Then in the 59th minute came the goal for Mumbai as they break into a counter attack with Subhash singh running with the ball on the left, he then puts in a terrific cross for Anelka inside the box. Anelka made no mistake as he chipped it over the keeper. That was the second goal for Anelka in his second match.
Alessandro Del Piero came in for Mads Junker in the 62nd minute, while for Mumbai Shylo makes way for Francis Fenandes.
Nicolas Anelka went past four Delhi players in the 64th minute without any effort and played it to Moritz on the right, but he fails to put in a good cross. A super run from Jan Stohanzl in 69th minute as he pierces the Delhi midfield to find space and passes it to Anelka, he fires in a shot but there is a deflection that sends it wide of the post. Steven Dias puts in a lovely ball for Arias, he takes a shot which is blocked by Manuel Friedrich which could have been close.
Mumbai gave away a free kick to Delhi in 78th minute in a dangerous position on the right flank which Del Piero takes it and shoots it low towards the right post but Paul dives well in full length to keep it away.
Delhi made their second substitution in the 80th minute as Morten Skoubo came on for Dos Santos.
In the final minutes of the game Mumbai gave away a free kick on the left flank, the cross is a good one as it finds Raymaekers who heads it towards the goal, but Paul dives low to his left and gets a hand to it. The ball rolls away for a corner. This save made the the difference for Delhi Dynamos as they were close to a draw.
