Must Watch: Cristiano Ronaldo’s Nightmare Open Goal Miss Against Club America

Three days on from winning his fourth Ballon d’Or and Cristiano Ronaldo has arguably just missed the biggest sitter of 2016.
Against Club America in the FIFA Club World Cup semi-finals, with Real Madrid 1-0 up through Karim Benzema’s goal, Ronaldo had the perfect opportunity to double their lead.
A cross down the right-hand side found the Portuguese inside the six-yard box with the goal gaping and the goalkeeper nowhere to be seen.
And yet, somehow, he managed to head the ball backwards instead of into the open net.

The reaction says it all. Once the ball eventually goes out for a goal kick, Ronaldo can be seen standing still and looking around in disbelief.
And to think, the 31-year-old recently claimed he would have more Ballon d’Or awards than rival Lionel Messi if they played in the same team.
“It would be interesting to see both of us in the same team,” he told France Football.
“I think great players should play together. So if we were in the same team, I think I would have more than him, but he wouldn’t be far off.”
Not if you miss open goals like that, Cristiano.
