Catalan giants Barcelona are in with a decent chance to go through to the next round of the Champions League this season but they face a tough task against Italian giants Juventus in the quarter-finals of the competition.
The loss on the road to Malaga has all but ended their hopes of lifting the La Liga title as they are now six points off their Madrid rivals, who also have a game in hand.
Luis Enrique will be distraught with the way his team failed to take even a point from their game at the weekend but they will have to put that game behind them quickly as they back in action this mid-week.
The La Liga champions put in a record-breaking show against French giants PSG in the previous round of the Champions League to set up this tie against the Old Lady and with Barca’s recent form, Juventus have a great chance of moving into the semi-finals of the competition.
The Spanish side, on the other hand, need to do a lot of hard work if they are to challenge for the league title but they need two decent games to move into the next round of the UCL.
Luis Enrique seemed nervous even before the game against Malaga at the weekend, where he resort to humour when asked about his plans for the UCL night.
Enrique’s side play their arch rivals Real Madrid in-between two games against Juventus this month and these three games could possibly decide their season.
So, there is no doubt that the whole squad is nervous but Enrique did his best to cut the tension when he spoke about what Juventus plan should be for their league game at the weekend.
The Italian giants beat Chievo 2-0 in Turin at the weekend with Massimiliano Allegri resting a few key players to keep them fit and fresh for the clash against Barcelona later in the week.
However, Luis Enrique went with his best side to try and get all three points but failed.
But speaking before the Malaga game, Enrique, when asked about the game plan Juve should be using for their league game, joked about how Allegri should rest his star players for the UCL game to keep them fresh for the league.
Juve are thinking of resting Higuain against Chiveo… I would recommend them to rest him, Cuadrado, Dybala, Mandjukic (…) all these players against Barcelona.
“That’s would I would recommend and that way they would be much fresher for their league games. That’s my advice, but I don’t know if they will take it,’ he added.
Surely, this humour was Enrique’s attempt to mask his nervousness over the fixtures in the month of April.
