Victor Valdes signed an 18-month contract with United last year after his Barcelona journey ended in 2013-14. But, things haven’t gone according to plan for either Manchester United or Victor Valdes and the former Barcelona keeper has been told he has no future at Old Trafford by the manager, Louis van Gaal. Victor Valdes played just 2 games for the first team last season and remarkably hasn’t even got a squad number this season. Valdes had reportedly fallen out-of-favour with Van Gaal after he refused to play for the United Under-21s.
Valdes remains one of the most decorated keepers in the game, having won the World Cup and European Championships with Spain, and the Champions League three times at Barcelona.
Valdes is expected to join Belgian Pro League Standard Leige on loan for the remainder of the season.
There was a high probability last year that De Gea would leave for Madrid and perhaps LVG signed Valdes to fill in for De Gea but unfortunately for Valdes it was not to be.
Valdes made just two first-team appearances last season before he was omitted from the summer tour of America, and is no longer allowed to train with the first-team squad at Carrington.
Valdes was linked to a number of clubs in the summer, most notably Besiktas, but Valdes wanted to revive his career in the Premier League. However, Louis Van Gaal had other ideas and that is why Valdes is moving to Belgium. It is believed that a part of his wages will be funded by Manchester United.
