Arsene Wenger and his club have reached a crunch time in their season as they will face a must-win game against Olympiakos in the Champions League group stage fixture this mid-week. Arsenal are three points below their opponents and will need a victory to stay alive in the competition. A draw or a loss would knock them out of the League and will see them drop into the Europa League.
This will also be an important match for the Greek outfit as they have a great chance to get into the final 16 of the Champions League. They will, however, have a very tough task when they face an Arsenal side that is fresh from a 3-1 victory against Sunderland in the weekend. Here is the preview of the game along with the Team News, Predictions, Expected Line-ups and Betting Odds.
The Olympiakos vs Arsenal match will be played on Wednesday the 9th of December at the Georgios Karaiskakis stadium in Olympiakos. The kick off is scheduled at 7:45 pm BST (1:15 am on Thursday IST).
Marco Silva’s side is a relatively fit group and the manger has a fit squad to chose from for this crunch game on Wednesday. Esteban Cambiasso has shaken off his injuries and will replace Luka Milivojevic in the starting line-up for the home side.
The biggest news coming out of the Arsenal dug out is the possibility of the manager playing Calum Chamber ahead of Flamini after the former shook off his injury scares. Theo Walcott played a bit against Sunderland and may start for the Gunners ahead of Olivier Giroud up front. Arsenal still have 7 first team players on the sidelines and this will give Joel Campbell another opportunity against the club where he impressed when on loan.
Roberto; Omar Elabdellaoui, Botia, Siovas, Masuaku; Milivojevic, Kasami; Pardo, Fortounis, Seba; Brown Ideye
Cech; Bellerin, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal; Ramsey, Flamini, Campbell, Ozil, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Theo Walcott.
Mesut Ozil vs Kasami:
Ozil has been in the scintillating form off late and has been one of the best players for Wenger on a consistent basis. He will be up against Kasami who is an excellent holding midfielder for the home side. It will be interesting to see how much space he affords Ozil on the day as it can easily turn out to be the difference between the two sides at the end of the day.
Ideye vs Laurent Koscielny:
Koscielny has settled into the center back role for Arsenal very well this year. He has been disciplined at the back and is an excellent ball player. He is also strong and will be up against Ideye, who has the ability to get the better of the Frenchman. This battle in front of goal will affect the game as this is one of the best outlets for the home side when under pressure.
The Arsenal team looked really good at times against Sunderland in the last game and has also won their last Champions League fixture with ease. Though the pressure will be on them to break the deadlock and take all three points, they have enough firepower in their arsenal to reach the Round of 16 of the Champions League with a victory in this game.
