In a bizarre incident in the Bern League (a league in Switzerland), a footballer Ricardo Ferreira has been banned for 50 years. The Swiss FA announced this decision after the defender kicked the ball onto the referee’s face and spraying him with water.

The Portugal Futebol Clube full-back has already served a 45-game ban for assaulting opposition players. Ferreira wasn’t even part of the match as he was an unused substitute in his team’s match against SC Worb in the Bern league when he went and attacked the referee after the final whistle.

When asked about his ban, Ferreira said that “I had expected one or two years maximum. But 50 years? Football’s my life.” Ferreira, currently 28, will be allowed to to footballing activity on 5 June 2064, by which time he will be 78.
