Arsenal FC’s out of favour German attacker Lukas Podolski is all set to leave the London side and join Turkish giants Galatasaray this summer. According to German media, Podolski have agreed to join Galatasaray and the club will pay £2.85m, €4m.
Lukas Podolski had joined the Gunners in 2012. After two successful seasons at the club, his form suddenly took a dip. After the inclusion of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in the back to back seasons, Podolski went off colour and lost his place in the starting XI. The German was then sent on loan to Inter Milan in January 2015.
Yet again it was an unsuccessful stint with the Italian side and he came back to London after the season concluded. It was reported earlier that Podolski was strongly linked with the Turkish club.
German newspaper Bild’s chief reporter confirmed the news on twitter today morning. His tweet read:
The 30-year-old winger played 13 games this season scoring just 3 goals. In the second half of the season, he managed to play 17 games for Inter Milan but scored just once.
Lukas Podolski, who was a part of Germany’s World Cup winning squad last year, is well past his prime now. A move away from Arsenal would actually suit him perfectly and his career might blossom again. Sticking to the Gunners would have killed his career too early.
Though Bild has reported about the news an official confirmation is yet to be received from either of the clubs.
