5 Things we learnt from Paris Saint-Germain's 2-0 win over Malmo

The League 1 champions PSG started their European campaign of the 2015-16 season with a home game against Malmo FF in a Group A fixture. They took all three points from the game with a 2-0 victory and are 2nd in the group behind Real Madrid on goal difference. Laurent Blanc will be relatively happy with his team’s performance and will hope that the good start continues.

Here are the 5 things we learnt from the PSG vs Malmo game –

1. PSG not really tested.

The French outfit finished a comfortable 2-0 victory but they were not really put under any sort of pressure. The visitors did not really test the home team and PSG ran away with the win. However, this victory does not show how they fare against the Europe’s elite footballing clubs. They have tougher tests ahead and the manager will know that he needs his team to be in top form in every game.

2. Di Maria may be getting back to his best.

Angel Di Maria failed to impress in his short stint in England in a Manchester United shirt. But there were no doubts about his talent as he showed in his debut in the Champions League for PSG. He opened the scoring inside 4 minutes to give his side the lead and was one of the most active players on the field. His vision and passing can destroy opponents and he may prove to be just what PSG need to unleash a title challenge this season.

3. Midfield battle dominated.

PSG were fluid on the day and showed purpose in every pass. They were clinical and piled on the pressure as Malmo crumbled. Most of this is down to the way their mid-fielders controlled the center of the park. Verrati, Thiago Motta and Blaise Matuidi played a brilliant game and never let Malmo settle on the ball. Their work rate and willingness to chase the ball was often rewarded as PSG were on the front foot for most of the match. Though the names are not world class, the midfield trio has given PSG a strong base to launch their attacks.

4. Ibrahimovic lacking a bit of confidence.

One of the best strikers in world football at the moment, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has an impressive record playing for his present club. He usually controls the pace of the game and leads the attack up front. However, this season, he has only shown in patches what he can do. His goal scoring form will concern Laurent Blanc but till the team picks victories, he will not complaint. But an inform Zlatan can give PSG a huge leap of confidence in the Competition.

5. Malmo failed to impress.

PSG were drawn with Real Madrid and Shakthar Donetsk along with Malmo. This is not an easy group especially for a team like Malmo. They were not really going anywhere in the game and their intensity was nowhere close to what was needed. The matches will only get tougher and the manager has a lot of work to cross the qualifying stage.
