Just a day after ESPN Brazil reported that Chelsea are just a few signatures away from landing Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato, new reports have emerged that the London franchise now has some competition for his signature.

Portuguese paper A Bola reported that Sporting CP are now in the race to sign Pato from Corinthians this January.

Today’s edition of the A Bola has reported that the Portuguese side have opened talks with the agent if the player but mentioned that the Lisbon giants only want the 26-year old on a loan.

The news outlet also reported that Pato is now on the priority list of transfer targets at Sporting and are expected to persuade the player for a move with Real Betis also emerging as suitors for the Brazilian.

Pato has played for the Santos where he could not land a permanent deal. Chelsea now are understood to be aware of the competition for the player and have started thinking about alternatives with less than 10 days left for the transfer window.

Though the player prefers a Premier League move, Chelsea are also concerned with the fitness of Pato who has not played since November. He will also need a work permit and with all these factors, Chelsea are now looking elsewhere for some options.

They have been offered Paris St-Germain forward Ezequiel Lavezzi and are believed to have held talks with his agent, Alejandro Mazzoni in London yesterday.

If either of the strikers do arrive at the Stamford Bridge this January, Radamel Falcao might well be out of his way from Chelsea and with just one fit striker in Loic Remy at the moment, a fairly quick decision has to be taken by the Blues before the transfer window close.

Who do you think Chelsea and Guus Hiddink should target in this transfer window?
