Arsene Wenger is close to agreeing a new 2-year contract with the Gunners. The news has been floating in just hours ahead of the Chelsea game.
After Pep Guardiola announced that he would be leaving Bayern Munich at the end of the season there was a lot of speculation that Pep Guardiola would be coming to the Premier League but after this exclusive from The Sun, one thing is for sure – Guardiola won’t be joining Arsenal anytime soon. But Arsenal fans do not need to get disappointed about this because guess what, Arsene Wenger a.k.a Le Professeur is close to agreeing a new deal with the club that will keep him at Arsenal till 2019.
The Sun also say that Arsene Wenger has already started making major changes to the club’s scouting network. Wenger has always maintained that he is keen to leave a strong Arsenal squad for his successor and it seems that it is a step in that direction. It’s also claimed that the 66-year-old has already made plans to help Arsenal for the next 10 years by making Steve Rowley the club’s chief scout, with Steve Morrow leading the side’s youth scouting network.
Arsenal have also signed chief Leicester scout Ben Wrigglesworth according to the Mirror. This move clearly indicates that not only is Arsene Wenger is preparing the club for the future.
The 66-year old’s current deal expires next year and it is expected that Wenger will sign a new two-year contract with the club which will keep him at the Emirates Stadium until 2019. If Arsene Wenger does stick around with Arsenal for that long he would have completed 23 years at the club. The report claims that Wenger’s ‘appetite’ has been reignited due to Arsenal’s push for the Premier League title this season.
This season’s performances from the Londoners are worthy enough to give Wenger a new deal. Arsenal are currently on top of the Premier League table and are also on course to winning their third consecutive FA Cup (although it’s still early days in the competition).Wenger might not have been able to win the Champions League with the Gunners but with the squad that he is building Arsenal now look a more potent force in Europe and who knows in the next couple years Arsenal might become the best in Europe.
Arsenal have never been stronger financially and now it’s up to Wenger to make the most of Arsenal’s financial position and build a squad that wins more titles.
An official announcement is not expected to be made until the end of the season.
