The summer transfer window shuts in a few days and Monaco defender Fabinho’s wife has given Manchester United fans hope of her spouse joining Jose Mourinho’s revolution.
Eagle-eyed Instagram followers spotted Rebeca Tavares had followed United, amid speculation her 22-year-old husband is wanted by the club.
Brazil international Fabinho was interesting United a year ago but a move for the right-back failed to materialise. Despite Louis van Gaal’s departure, the former Rio Ave full-back has continued to be linked with United.
Fabinho is represented by Jorge Mendes, who oversaw Mourinho’s appointment as United manager in May and has concluded deals for numerous players to join United since Cristiano Ronaldo’s £12.24million transfer in 2003. Anderson, Nani, Bebe, David de Gea, Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao all agreed on deals under the guidance of Mendes.
Another Mendes client, Renato Sanches, might have joined United instead of Bayern Munich had Ed Woodward appointed Mourinho sooner than May.
Fabinho scored a 90th-minute winner in Monaco’s Champions League qualifying win over Villarreal on Tuesday night to clinch a group stage spot for the 2004 runners-up.
Mourinho has wanted to add a fifth signing to his squad for over a month now, with Juventus centre-back Leonardo Bonucci unattainable, while Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane was also linked with a move to United five years after Sir Alex Ferguson almost signed him.
The Real Madrid defender has already confirmed that he turned down a massive offer from the new united boss while Mourinho called him, whereas United’s pursuit for Southampton defender Jose Fonte is also over as the Portuguese recently agreed to terms with his club to stay there for another season.
