After the scuffles that broke out during half time between Atletico de Kolkata and FC Goa, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has handed down suspensions to four officials who were involved in the fracas.
Bans have been handed down to the Atletico player Fikru Teferra, coach Antonia Habas and goalkeeping coach for Kolkata Predipkumar Bhaktawer. FC Goa marquee signing Robert Pires has also been suspended for 2 games for his role in the incident.
FC Goa coach Zico had alleged that Habas had actually punched Robert Pires during the clash which took place on Thursday, though the away team brushed off the incident, the AIFF has not taken a dim view of this and has handed down bans for both parties involved.
Habas has been fined, along with Fikru and Pires a sum of INR 5,00,000 (Rs. Five Lakh) each. Fikru and Pires have been suspended for the next two fixtures while Habas has been suspended for the next 4 fixtures for the breach of AIFF’s Disciplinary code (Article 58) of Offensive behavior and fair play. Habas has been handed a stiffer punishment because this is his second transgression on Article 58, he was previously charged under the same article on October 18, 2014.
Predipkumar Bhaktawer, the Atletico de Kolkata goalkeeping coach was handed a one match suspension and fined INR 30,000.
This comes as a big blow to the Kolkata side that already has lost Luis Garcia to injury and now will be without Fikru for their upcoming match tomorrow. It could have been much worse for Fikru as he seemed to have head-butted the Goa defender Gregory at half time.
