AS Roma’s squad has been struck with a mysterious flu. Latest one to suffer from the flue is Bosnian Miralem Pjanic. Earlier Roma legend Francesc Totti was ruled out due to the flu.
Pjanic, who was earlier named in the Roma’s squad to face Parma today but woke up being affected by the flu and was omitted from the squad and was left back home to recover in time.
Interestingly though, Pjanic was linked with a summer move to Liverpool this week. It was reported by Football Italia that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was in Rome to lay the ground work to sign Pjanic in the summer. For now we know that Pjanic will miss Parma’s game due to flu but we wonder is the flu actual reason for Pjanic’s absence or something else is happening behind the scenes?
Pjanic’s absence further tests Rudi Garcia’s squad strength as the Italian side are already missing Francesco Totti (flu), Maicon (knee), Jose Holebas (suspended), alongside the long-term absentees Victor Ibarbo, Juan Iturbe, Kevin Strootman and Leandro Castan.
Amid all these injuries Rudi Garcia faces a tough decision to make whether to field his available first team players or second string squad against Parma since Roma will be in Europa League action against Feyenoord.
Roma manager must be thankful to his young stars who helped Roma to break the long run of draws and earn a win against Cagliari last weekend. Roma have drawn 4 of their last 5 league matches. Those draws have seen Roma fall 7 points behind Juventus in the title race.
With Pjanic and Totti missing due to the mysterious flu, fans will be hoping for a great performance from Adem Ljajic. Serbian forward has scored 8 goals this season and will look to carry Roma’s attack against Parma.
Probable Roma’s 11 to face Parma: De Sanctis; Maicon, Manolas, Astori, Cole; Parades, Keita, Nainggolan; Verde, Ljajic, Florenzi
