The Emirates saw Arsenal welcome Watford in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, as the two Premier League outfits faced off against each other. Arsene Wenger’s side were not really performing at their very best and went to the game prior to their second leg clash against Barcelona in the Champions League at the Nou Camp. Despite the positive start, it did not go as per plan for the French manager and his team on the night. A lot of chances were wasted in the opening 45 minutes by the home side, as they looked to push for a goal in the opening 45 minutes though there were none scored as the visitors held on.

In the second half, the hosts were made to pay for their inability to finish as the Hornets took the lead in the 50th minute when Odion Ighalo beat David Ospina. Adlene Guedioura added a second for his side to double their lead on the 63rd minute. The Londoners looked in shock and the stadium stunned though Danny Welbeck managed to open the scoring for them in the 88th minute. However, it was too little too late, as he missed a superb chance to make it level a minute later. Gabriel was lucky to still be on the field while Eleny and Giroud were major flops on the night in front of goal.

Arsenal lost at home to Quique Sánchez Flores’s side, who went through to the semi-finals and here is what Wenger had to say after the game:

“Our long run in the EmiratesFACup comes to a sad end because I don’t think we deserved to lose. They took their chances.”

“We made a mistake and we paid for it. It’s always difficult to pick everyone up but we will prepare for Barcelona.”

“It’s difficult to understand how we didn’t score at the end. It was a typical cup game against a battling team.”

“We did not make our possession in the final third count but we have shown that we can respond to disappointment.”

“We want to make the impossible possible in Barcelona. It’s important we go there with a strong side and fight.”
