Manchester United came away with a last minute win over Newcastle United courtesy a goal from Ashley Young. United have battled the critics this season as much as their opponents. People are not convinced by the style of play Van Gaal’s men have displayed this season.

Against Newcastle, United had greater share of possession but were unable to pull off anything substantial when they were near Newcastle’s penalty area. The game seemed to be heading towards a draw when Wayne Rooney chased a lost cause and helped Young find the bottom corner of Krul’s goal to keep United in hunt for the coveted top 4 place.

Speaking with MUTV, In his post match interview, Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal talked about Rooney’s amazing effort, De Gea’s brilliant season and the team spirit his side are showing.

Speaking on Rooney and United’s team spirit Van Gaal said:

“I have to say that Wayne, how he makes that goal, is unbelievable, because it was a lost ball. But his fighting spirit is unbelievable,”

“I have a fantastic group. They have the spirit and, in spite of all the criticism, they want to win and always play good football. Today I think we played good football.”

Once again Man United will be thankful to David De Gea, who pulled two brilliant saves (from Riviere & Cisse) to hand his side the all important victory. Save against Cisse came in the injury time, further enhancing his reputation of being the best goalkeeper in the league.

Van Gaal praised his number-one goal keeper and said: “David De Gea, this year, is unbelievable,” Van Gaal told MUTV.

“In my career I have a lot of good goalkeepers, for example Edwin van der Sar was one of my goalkeepers and [Victor] Valdes also with Barcelona, but De Gea is having a great season.

Goal scorer Ashley Young spoke to the media following his heroic goal and emphasized on how the team is following their manager and looking to fight for the place regardless of what people think of United’s playing style.

Young told BT Sports“People are always going to question the biggest club in the world but we just concentrate on ourselves and don’t listen to anybody else.

“We listen to the manager and the staff and we just wanted to come here and get the three points.

“We’ve got a great team spirit and a great bond here and we will fight for our place.

Following their win, Manchester United have moved to 4th place in the table, 1 point behind Arsenal while Liverpool are hot on their heels as they only trail the red devils by just 2 points. Next up its FA Cup quarter final for Man United against Arsenal this weekend.
