This season the Barclays Premier League has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride for the teams. The results week in and week out have been astonishing and the Premier League points table does not wear a familiar look.
Top clubs in the league have failed to weave results together while fringe teams have shown consistency that was unheard of in the earlier stages. Goal scoring has never been a problem in the Premier League which is known for its end to end play. But keeping possession is not something every team can do.
Here is the table that rates Premier League clubs according to their passing accuracy.
1. Arsenal- 85.36%
The Gunners have kept an average of 55% possession in the Premier League and have completed 7,809 passes at an accuracy rate that is the highest in the league.
2. Manchester City- 85.09%
Pellegrini’s side has not been consistent enough this season but has averaged 54% possession in their games. They also completed 7,707 passes so far this season.
3. Manchester United- 84.35%
The Red Devils’ manager Louis van Gaal is under scrutiny with the recent results but they have completed the second most passes at 7,783 in the Premier League.
4. Swansea City- 83.89%
The Irish outfit has not been able to string results together but have been useful with the ball and have had an average of 52% possession even as their manager has been sacked recently.
5. Everton- 83.25%
The Blue of Merseyside has looked a strong outfit this season and has completed 6,397 passes this season under Roberto Martinez.
6. Chelsea- 82.69%
Chelsea has had a disastrous season so far but has averaged 54% of the possession in their games. They have also completed 6,822 passes so far this season.
7. AFC Bournemouth- 81.27%
The Cherries under Eddie Howe have been exceptional and have kept 52% of ball possession in their games so far this season.
8. Liverpool- 80.84%
The Reds have had two different managers so far this season and have not looked settled. They have completed 6,648 passes and are 8th in this table.
9. Tottenham Hotspur- 80.69%
The London franchise has lost just two games so far this season and has kept 52% of the possession in those games. They have completed 5,739 passes in this period.
10. Southampton- 79.49%
The Saints have looked shaky at times and need to improve on their game this season. They have made 5,784 successful passes this season and have kept 51% of possession on an average.
11. Stoke City- 79.31%
Stoke City have accumulated a dynamic squad and are playing some good football. They have completed 5,342 passes this season and have put 49% of possession.
12. Aston Villa- 79.27%
The bottom placed team in the Premier League, Villa has not been too bad under either of their managers and have managed to put 49% of possession in the games so far this season.
13. Norwich City- 78.64%
The newly promoted Canaries are not too far from the relegation zone but have produced some good results off late. They have completed 5,010 passes so far this season.
14. West Ham United- 78.07%
The Hammers under Slaven Bilic are playing some good football and have completed 4,734 passes this season. They have had an average possession rate of 48%
15. Crystal Palace- 77.90%
Alan Pardew has got the Palace side playing some slick football this season. They are in the top half of the table and have completed 4,432 passes in this season.
16. Newcastle United- 77.87%
The Magpies are in the bottom half of the table and badly in need of results. They have kept an average possession of 47% in the Premier League this season.
17. Sunderland- 74.47%
The Black Cats are in the midst of the relegation battle this season and have completed just 4,062 passes so far this season.
18. Watford- 74.12%
Another newly promoted side doing well this season, Watford are in the top half of the table and have kept an average possession of just 47% in this season of the EPL.
19. West Bromwich Albion- 73.38%
The Baggies are slowly getting into grips with the Premier League this season and have completed just 3,772 passes in all their games.
20. Leicester City- 71.97%
The top placed club in the points table of the Premier League, Leicester City is a perfect example of how teams can get results without too many good looking stats. The Foxes have completed just 3,844 the 2nd least behind the Baggies and have just kept 46% of the possession in the games this season.
