Marco Verratti has reportedly signed a new deal with Paris Saint-Germain for a period of four years, ie until 2020, according to his agent.
The player said he was happy at Paris at the moment and the Italy international has been one of Ligue 1’s star performers this season, after arriving from Pescara to Parc des Princes in 2012.
The 23-year old has been linked with many top clubs like Chelsea, Barcelona and Bayern Munich since some time, but his future as of now seems to be settled.
This has left Chelsea with a big blow since they were interested in the player since some time now.
“We need to put everything in black and white, but we found an agreement,” Verratti’s agent, Donato Di Campli, told Italian sports daily Corriere Dello Sport.
“He will remain long in Paris, at least until 2020. This is already the fourth renewal, it is now demonstrating that he deserves these commitments.”
Marco brushed aside all rumours by stating in December that he would be probably signing a new deal with the French champions, having extended his contract last year, though other clubs were always ready to sign him.
Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez had suggested that the player would fit perfectly at Camp Nou and all rumours now stand quashed with his new deal confirmed.
Premier league giants also were eagerly watching the player since more than a year and former Chelsea boss Mourinho wanted to bring the Italy international to Stamford Bridge at any cost.
Mourinho’s sacking was probably the matter which eased the pressure on PSG and led to the signing of a new contract until 2020.
The 23-year-old has made 100 appearances for PSG and his holding power in the mid as a central midfielder is what caught the eyes of top clubs.
