Rafael’s Manchester United career might have come to a premature end after the right-back was ruled out for rest of the season because of cracked ribs. Even prior to his season ending injury, Rafael was never fancied by Van Gaal to be his first choice right back in the side.
Rafael lost his place in the side to Antonio Valencia and is fast becoming a surplus to requirement at Manchester United. There have been many news about Manchester United going for Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne as the long-term right back option.
Rafael injured his ribs in a U-21 game for Manchester United against Leicester U-21 side. The 24-year old right-back cracked his 3 ribs which has ruled him out of any further football action this season. Given how Manchester United and Van Gaal are moving aggressively to bring in new players at the club, Rafael could be one of those heading for the exit doors of the club.
Rafael’s last game where he played the full 90 minutes came in October 2014 against Chelsea while his last appearance for the club came against Tottenham on 15th March 2015 where he played just for 3 minutes.
Rafael has always been one of the fan-favorites at the club so selling the Brazilian right-back may not be the most popular decision by Van Gaal but with his continuous slide in form and recent injury Rafael’s exit looks more and more probable.
