Real Madrid Defender Set To Make Portugal Move

Portuguese defender Fabio Coentrao will be returning back to his homeland as a move to Sporting CP almost completed, according to reports.
The defender will join the Portuguese giants on a season-long loan deal from Real Madrid as he looks to put his career back on track which got massively impacted due to injuries in the recent years.
Coentrao moved from Benfica to Real Madrid in 2011 for a reported transfer fee £26 million but had failed to make an impact at the club. He managed only 106 games for the club in five seasons as he was sent out on loan to French giants Monaco during the 2015-16 season.
The talented defender had managed to win two La Liga titles, two Champions League trophies with the club during his time but have not played more than 20 league games for Real Madrid in a single season. His career got worsened in the recent years as he was constantly injured and faced a lot of setbacks.
Coentrao had just finished another injury ridden season where he missed most of the season due to a hamstring injury and muscular problems. He is not longer a main team man at the club as he was restricted to just six games in an entire season and amassed a mere 297 minutes in total.
A move back to his homeland after six years would be an ideal way to hit the reset button and start his career once again. He was primarily drafted by the club to provide competition for Brazilian left back Marcelo but the latter has now grown into the best left back in the world.
The 29-year old was pictured having completed the medical with Sporting CP in Lisbon and a formal announcement on the loan deal could be made by the club on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Coentrao will once again need to start playing from the basics at his new club. He would need to stay injury free which could be the only means that he will ever have a chance to play for Real Madrid again in the future.
