Even as Liverpool held on to a 1-0 victory at the Britannia stadium in the semi final of the League Cup, the manager and the fans will have had a sleepless night.

As many as three players picked up a hamstring injury and this has now left the German manager short of options. So it comes as no surprise that less than 24 hours after announcing their first signing in the January window, Liverpool are reportedly closing in on another transfer.

The Italian media has published that Inter Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia has agreed on a January move to Liverpool. It is also reported that the two parties will agree on a fee in the upcoming days.

The 27 year old center back has fallen down the pecking order under manger Roberto Mancini who has reportedly asked the player to find a new club as soon as possible.


The defender was linked to a number of top Premier League clubs but with the injuries to Liverpool, it seems that they have jumped in foe the defender and are spending the next two days trying to agree on a fee.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, the 6ft 5 defender has already agreed terms with the Merseyside outfit and now it is a case of both the clubs fighting for the right price.

Recent injuries to Sakho, Skrtel and Lovren leave Liverpool with little options at the back and the manager will be hoping to finalize the deal as soon as possible.

Ranocchia has represented his country 20 times and is an experienced defender that will help this Liverpool side who have a slight trouble at the back.

If Liverpool are able to secure his signing, it will the 2nd signing of the Klopp era after Marco Grujic was officially revealed as a Liverpool players hours ago.
