Revealed: How Barcelona Will Use Messi For Rest Of The Season

Barcelona boss Luis Enrique admits it’s difficult to pick a team which doesn’t include the world’s best player.

Enrique spoke about Leo Messi during Saturday’s press conference to preview his side’s game against Valencia, which will take place on Sunday at Camp Nou. It is the 28th league game of the 2016/17 season.

During the press conference, Luis Enrique was asked if he has any plans to manage Messi’s minutes during the final stage of the season, with the club still in three competitions after a period in which the Argentine has hardly missed a second.

Luis Enrique said it’s something he’s thought about, but also pointed out that it may not be possible.

“He’s got the same numbers as last season, maybe a little more because last year he was injured for two months,” Luis Enrique said about the amount of football Messi has played.

“It’s analysed and thought about, but it is difficult to go without the best player in the world.”Image result for messi la liga 2017

Messi’s played almost everything this season. He has been a substitute in two league games, while he’s been taken off on three occasions. He’s also featured heavily in the Copa del Rey, the Champions League and the Spanish Super Cup.

Aside from the performance at the Estadio Riazor, Barcelona have improved since the 4-0 loss in Paris thanks to the introduction of the 3-4-3 formation, something which means for all intents and purposes that Luis Enrique has killed off the full-back role.

Sergio Busquets is more protected, Lionel Messi comes more into play and Rafinha and Sergi Roberto manage to express themselves better on the field.

On the other side of the coin, there are two specialist left-backs such as Jordi Alba and Lucas Digne; in the comeback against PSG the Catalan did not participate, while in Riazor he suffered because of not being able to join the attack and being out jumped for the winning goal scored by Bergantinos.

The situation of the Frenchman is even worse: he has not played a minute in the last four games because, even with rotation, he hasn’t been needed.
