Manchester United have been subjected to severe criticism this term but despite enduring a bad reputation of tedious underachievers, Louis van Gaal’s boys are currently only two points behind the top four and seven points adrift of the league leaders Arsenal.

Saturday’s Premier League fixture sees Manchester United welcoming Ronald Koeman’s Southampton to Old Trafford. A comprehensive win for the Red Devils would certainly be far greater than just under-pressure van Gaal triumphing in a grudge match between the two Dutch managers who still struggle to move on; a victory would also confirm Manchester United’s position as genuine contenders for Champions League qualification next season.

The Red Devils remain unbeaten in their previous five matches in all competitions, but continuing that sweet run against the Saints will not be a simple task. Southampton managed to push van Gaal’s boys so close in a thrilling 3-2 defeat at St Mary’s earlier this season and have also snatched points from Old Trafford on each of their last two Premier League visits.

Here is the starting line-up for both Manchester United and Southampton.

Manchester United Starting line-up: De Gea, Darmian, Smalling, Blind, B-Jackson, Schneiderlin, Fellaini, Lingard, Herrera, Martial, Rooney
