Revealed: The three players Mourinho has shortlisted to sign in 2017!

Speaking after Manchester United’s embarrassing 4-0 defeat at Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, Gary Neville said that the Portuguese coach needs to spend even more money during the next couple of transfer windows in order to make the Red Devils competitive again.

“I have to say when I look at United I still don’t know what their best XI is,” Neville told Sky Sports. “Mourinho is still early in his reign, he is identifying his best players, his best XI, his best partnerships.

“To be fair, United have to trust him and will trust him to get it right over the next couple of transfer windows, because if you look at their midfield, they have Pogba, (Morgan) Schneiderlin and Fellaini; that is £170m spent on central midfielders in the last three years and I still don’t know which is the best pairing. Mourinho has got to try and build a pair or replace them.”

Mourinho’s four summer signings, with the exception of Eric Bailly, have all struggled to produce good performances on a consistent basis so far this season.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has barely played – reports suggest Mourinho doesn’t have a particularly high opinion of the Armenia international – Zlatan Ibrahimovic has, at times, looked every year of his age while £89 million Paul Pogba has so fail failed to justify his astronomical price tag.

It’s still early days, of course, but Mourinho – according to ESPN sources – is already drawing up a shortlist of players that he can add to his underperforming squad in 2017.

Here are three of them…

SEAMUS COLEMAN | EVERTONFBL-ENG-PR-EVERTON-PALACE

Mourinho is keen to bring in a full-back, although Antonio Valencia has impressed at right-back this term, and Everton’s Seamus Coleman is apparently one of his top transfer targets.

Buying the 28-year-old away from Goodison Park, however, will be much easier said than done.

FABINHO | AS MONACOFBL-EUR-C1-MONACO-TRAINING

Five years younger than Coleman, Fabinho has been on United’s radar for some time now.

The Brazil international, who has a brief loan spell with Real Madrid, is currently shining for AS Monaco.

ANTOINE GRIEZMANN | ATLETICO MADRIDSevilla FC v Club Atletico de Madrid - La Liga

United’s top transfer target for 2017, Antoine Griezmann was named as the best player in La Liga for the 2015-16 campaign on Monday evening.

However, United acknowledge that signing the world-class Atletico Madrid superstar will be difficult, to say the least.
