Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is lining up for a surprising move for Sevilla winger Yevhen Konoplyanka to bolster his depleted attack. The Blues Portuguese manager was present in Kiev for the Spain-Ukraine Euro 2016 qualifier match and Konoplyanka is reportedly one of three potential signings Mourinho was looking after. He is also interested in another Ukrainian, Dynamo Kiev’s Yarmolenko. Konoplyanka left Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk in favour of Spain during the summer. The Ukraine winger is presently struggling to find his lost form since joining Sevilla. Shakhtar Donetsk manager Mircea Lucescu confirmed he had a discussion with Mourinho and suggested that 26-year-old Konoplyanka, Andriy Yarmolenko and Alex Teixeira, all were being considered as possible signings for the Blues.
“Mourinho is interested in Yevhen Konoplyanka,” Lucescu said. “I was at Ukraine versus Spain with Mourinho and he is interested in some players. Perhaps it is Yarmolenko or Teixeira, if not, then it is Konoplyanka.” Mourinho is currently down under with heavy criticism because of a disastrous start to the season losing in Champions League and only securing three wins in their nine Premier League matches till now. On Saturday in the last game made it clear of his determination to shake up his first eleven, leaving Eden Hazard in the bench and also gave a warning to the Belgian to improve work-rate quickly. Despite Mourinho’s interests, a move in the January transfer window for Konoplyanka may be a difficult one as the Ukrainian cup-tied for the Champions League. The Chelsea manager will be again in Ukraine as he preparing his squad for the Champions League clash against Dynamo Kiev on Monday.
