Under massive pressure on his head, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has attended a press conference ahead of Liverpool’s away trip to Aston Villa.
The Reds boss is feeling the heat after a disappointing start to the season with reports suggesting the club are considering replacements already.
The Northen Irishman Admitted “pressure is huge” but is ready to embrace the challenge.
He has also pleaded the fans to keep faith in the team.
He has also insisted that he wants to be at the club for a long period and maintains a good relationship with club’s owners.
He also admitted there is “No timeline” on Benteke’s return with Belgian missing clash with Villa.
Another bad news for the fans was confirmed by the manager as he said that Roberto Firmino might have cracked a bone in his back.
Things went from bad to worse for Rodgers.
He has confirmed Christian Benteke will miss the clash with his former club while Dejan Lovren is of course out after breaking his ankle against Carlisle.
But the major concern will be an injury to Roberto Firmino.
Rodgers has revealed the Brazilian may have “cracked something in his back.”
Rodgers has pleaded with the fans to stick with his players.
Many are starting to turn and a disappointing result on Saturday will lead to more complaints.
He said, “I’d ask the fans to keep faith with the team. To stay with the team who are working tirelessly every day.”
He also talked about the big managers’ names being linked with the club. He said, “In terms of names linked when a manager of the club this size there is always going to be speculation, especially when not winning.”
He also talked about his relation with the owners.
“I have regular contact with owners & that relationship is strong. No matter how much longer I’m here, I’ll have huge respect for them.”
He also admitted that he is under huge pressure and he embraces the challenge. He said, “The pressure is huge, but I embrace that challenge. I respect that we need to get results. One win and we’re back around top 4.”
“We’ve created that expectancy here because of how we’ve worked. How do I block it out? I focus very much on the team.”
“I’d ask the fans to keep faith with the team. To stay with the team who are working tirelessly every day.”
“No matter what league a team is from, when they defend like Carlisle did it can be very difficult to break down.”
Rodgers also talked about Danny Ings who scored two goals in last two games, “I’ve been very happy with his contribution since he came in here. What he’s done is grab the opportunity.”
“We wanted to be more creative & we’re getting into good areas, but we need to be more clinical with our finishing.”
“The squad are very stable and focused. They know it’s very early, they’re looking to create some kind of momentum.”
Rodgers also confirmed that Sturridge will come back into the squad to face Villa.
“I’m never complacent enough to think my job has never been (in danger).At a club of this stature, you always need to be at your best.”
“Grealish is a top talent for Villa, he’s one we need to watch. I know Scott Sinclair very well & delighted to see him doing well.”
