Brazilian legend Ronaldinho believes new Liverpool signing Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho gives Rodgers ‘one of the most exciting midfields in Europe’.

Liverpool confirmed the signing of Hoffenheim star Roberto Firmino this week in a deal worth £29 million. The 23-year-old is regarded as the next big thing in Brazil after brilliant performances in the Bundesliga in the last couple of seasons.

It is reported Firmino rejected clubs like Manchester United and Manchester City to join his international teammate Philippe Coutinho at Liverpool. Ronaldinho is backing the Brazilian duo to torment defences in the Premier League, and believes it is a big sign of intent from the Liverpool owners.

He said: “For Liverpool to have Coutinho and Firmino is a big achievement for them. It is going to give them one of the most exciting midfields in Europe.

“The creativity, intelligence and goals they have between them can change Liverpool as a team. It is a big sign of intent.

“It is a dream for the Liverpool strikers to have that sort of service. They will create so many chances.”

According to Liverpool Echo, Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho and Emre Can are expected to miss club’s pre-season tour of the Far East and Australia, while most of the other players are expected to report back for duty at Melwood on Monday, July 6.
