How big a say does Lionel Messi have at Barcelona? Often there are a number of reports on how he can sway certain decisions when it comes to recruitment.
According to Spanish outlet Don Balon, Messi has ‘warned’ his club about signing Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus.
Barca have been linked with a move for the German international, but Messi is said to have told his employers not to sign the 27-year old because of concerns with Reus’ injury record.
But the same outlet says that Messi is pushing for Barcelona to sign his Argentina national team colleague Angel Di Maria.
The PSG man turned out for arch-rivals Real Madrid for four seasons before joining Real Madrid, which would mean he would likely receive plenty of backlash from Los Blancos if he did move to the Nou Camp.
But there’s no denying the talents of the former Manchester United man, who scored a double in the 4-0 Champions League last 16 first leg win over Barcelona, before PSG completely capitulated in the second leg.
The talk is that Messi is set to drop back into a deeper role at Barcelona, freeing up space to bring in a right-sided player to add to the Blaugrana’s attacking options.
And Di Maria is believed to be top of Barcelona’s wishlist. The 29-year old only signed for PSG in the summer in a £45 million so would command a substantial fee, but he’d certainly be a mighty fine addition at Barca.
But the Argentine could get into trouble as several reports are claiming he is partaking in tax evasion and PSG know about it and are profiting from it. Mediapart has exposed it as part of the Football Leaks series.
The report relates to a contract that PSG signed in August 2015 with an offshore company that manages in the image rights of Angel di Maria in Panama, a tax haven.
An earlier report from December 2016 by Mediapart implicated Javier Pastore and Angel di Maria in tax evasion via offshore companies located in tax havens.
Now, Mediapart goes further:
“The Paris club signed a contract in August 2015 with an offshore company that manages the image rights of Angel di Maria in Panama, the contract indicates that the club receives a portion of the money to this company from di Maria’s image rights…. This will interest the French national financial prosecutor, who had already opened a preliminary investigation for “laundering aggravated fiscal fraud,” aimed specifically at Angel di Maria.”
